Sharp Memorial and Sharp Grossmont Achieve MAGNET® Designation for Nursing Excellence In January 2008, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded Sharp Memorial Hospital prestigious MAGNET designation for its excellence in nursing practices and quality patient care. Sharp Grossmont Hospital received MAGNET designation in 2006.
2007 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Sharp HealthCare was named one of five organizations to receive the 2007 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest presidential honor for quality and organizational performance excellence. Listen to Sharp's radio commercial.
Innovative User of Business Technology InformationWeek selected Sharp HealthCare as one of the nation’s 250 leading users of business technology for its 2009 InformationWeek 500 list. Sharp earned the rank of No. 189 overall and was the only California-based health care provider represented in the 500-member list.
Best Hospital in San Diego Readers of The San Diego Union-Tribune recognized Sharp HealthCare as San Diego's "Best Hospital" in the newspaper's "Best of San Diego" Readers' Poll for 2009. This is the third year in a row Sharp has been honored with this title. The issue was published on Aug. 2, 2009.
"Most Wired" Health Care System, 11th Year in a Row Sharp HealthCare was named one of the nation's "Most Wired" health care systems for the 11th consecutive year by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine in the annual Most Wired Survey and Benchmark Study. "Most Wired" hospitals are committed to using technology to enhance quality of care for both patients and staff.
American Heart Association Honors Sharp Grossmont Hospital With Gold Awards Sharp Grossmont Hospital is honored by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With the Guidelines Program with two gold awards. The program recognizes achievement in quality care for treating cardiac patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke.
Sharp HealthCare Named One of "California's Best Places to Work" for 2008 Sharp HealthCare has ranked 5th place in the large company-size category of California's Best Places to Work program. This best workplace program exclusively for California employers was sponsored by Employers Group, the preeminent human resources expert and advocate serving California employers.
Sharp HealthCare Rated Top Hospital Network in Southern California For the 11th year in a row, Sharp HealthCare has been named among the top integrated health care networks in the state and the nation in an annual survey conducted by SDI, a leading health care data analyst. Sharp ranked No. 1 in Southern California and No. 13 nationally.
Sharp.com Wins 2008 eHealthcare Leadership Awards Sharp.com was recognized with two 2008 eHealthcare Leadership Awards: Distinction Award for Best Web 2.0/Rich Media for a Healthcare System and Distinction Award for Best Overall Internet Site for a Healthcare System.
Sharp HealthCare Ranked One of the Best Places to Work in Health Care Modern Healthcare has ranked Sharp HealthCare 47th in its 100 Best Places to Work. The new awards and honors program recognizes workplaces in health care that enable employees to perform at their optimum level to provide patients and customers with the best possible care and services. Organizations and companies from all segments of the health care industry with a minimum of 25 full-time employees were eligible and 238 health care organizations and companies participated.
San Diego SHRM Excellence Award Sharp HealthCare won a crystal Workplace Excellence Award from the San Diego Society for Human Resource Management. The Workplace Excellence Awards recognizes small and large companies from various industries that implement cutting-edge human resource practices that lead to employee satisfaction and company performance.
Best Health Care Provider and Best Hospital in San Diego Readers of The San Diego Union-Tribune recognized Sharp HealthCare as San Diego's "Best Health Care Provider" and "Best Hospital" in the newspaper's "Best of San Diego" Readers' Poll, which was published on Aug. 1, 2008.
American Heart Association Honors Two Sharp Hospitals With Awards Sharp Grossmont Hospital was honored with the Triple Performance Achievement Award, as well as gold and silver awards, from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) Program for its quality care in treating cardiac patients for heart attacks. Sharp Memorial Hospital was recognized with both the Gold Sustained Performance Award and the Bronze Initial Performance Award. This recognition was announced in the July 21, 2008, edition of U.S. News & World Report.

"Most Wired" hospitals are committed to using technology to enhance quality of care for both patients and staff.
2008 Best Integrated Health Care Network in California Sharp HealthCare has been named the top integrated health care network in California in an annual survey conducted by Verispan, a leading health care data analyst. This is the 10th year running that Sharp has placed among the top in the state survey, which was nationally announced by Modern Healthcare magazine in February 2008.
Best Website Design and Best Quality Communication Sharp.com was awarded two 2007 eHealthcare Leadership Awards: platinum for best consumer health website design and silver for best quality communication. Judges selected winners from more than 1,100 website entries by comparing the sites to others in their organization’s classification.
Web Site Creative Excellence Sharp HealthCare was named a 2007 W³ silver award winner for creative Web excellence in the health care services category. The W³ awards honor Web creativity and function — from the biggest advertising agencies to local nonprofits — and are judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts.
Planetree Patient-Centered Designation Sharp Coronado Hospital was one of just five hospitals nationwide to receive the Planetree Patient-Centered Hospital Designation. It was also the only hospital in California to have met the stringent criteria developed by Planetree, a nonprofit organization committed to improving medical care from the patient's perspective.

Best Health Care Provider and Best Hospital in San Diego San Diego Union-Tribune readers named Sharp HealthCare San Diego’s “Best Health Care Provider” and “Best Hospital” in the paper's "Best of San Diego" Readers' Poll published Aug. 3, 2007.

"Most Wired" hospitals are committed to using technology to enhance quality of care for both patients and staff.
Top 100 Places to Work in Information Technology IDG's Computerworld ranked Sharp HealthCare 3rd on its annual Best Places to Work in IT survey for 2007 — up from Sharp's 77th-place ranking in 2006. Specific strengths of Sharp included a generous training budget per IT employees, a larger percentage of IT managers who are women and high ratings for IT employee retention and benefits.
Excellence in Patient Safety and Health Care Quality Sharp Memorial Hospital and Sharp Grossmont Hospital were among 22 California hospitals recognized for their outstanding commitment to health care quality and patient safety in May 2006. Based on results from the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey, the first-time award was presented by 4 of the state's leading health plans — Aetna, Blue Shield of California, CIGNA HealthCare of California and United Healthcare.
50 Exceptional US Hospitals Sharp Memorial Hospital was rated by the Leapfrog Group as one of 50 "Exceptional US Hospitals" as published in the March/April 2005 issue of Consumers Digest (the most current release of the "Exceptional US Hospitals" list). Sharp Memorial came in at No. 25. The list comes from a nationwide survey conducted by the Leapfrog Group, and is based on "leaps" in safety and quality in health care.
California Awards for Performance Excellence (Baldrige) Eureka Winner In November 2006, Sharp HealthCare was the first health care system to be named a gold-level award recipient by the California Council for Excellence (CCE) for the California Awards for Performance Excellence (CAPE) program, the state-level affiliate of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Sharp was recognized for its leadership, strategic planning, employee engagement and financial results. Sharp was a silver-level Eureka Award winner in 2005 and a bronze-level winner in 2004.
Sharp Grossmont Awarded MAGNET Designation for Nursing Excellence In 2006, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded Sharp Grossmont Hospital MAGNET designation for its excellence in nursing practices and quality patient care. The MAGNET Recognition Program® is the highest level of honor awarded by the ANCC and is accepted nationally as the gold standard in nursing excellence.
American Heart Association Honors Sharp Grossmont With Gold and Silver Awards Sharp Grossmont Hospital was honored with both gold and silver awards from the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) Program for its quality care in treating cardiac patients for heart attacks. The hospital won the gold award for participating in GWTG at levels exceeding performance measures for 24 consecutive months at levels exceeding performance measures in its patient treatment. The silver award was given for 12 consecutive months of participation in GWTG exceeding the criteria.
Gold Medal for Stroke Care Program The Joint Commission gave Sharp Grossmont Hospital its Gold Seal of Approval™ for stroke care. The Joint Commission awarded the hospital Primary Stroke Center Certification after conducting a rigorous on-site review in mid-January 2006.
Sharp Medical Groups Receive Highest Honor The Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group and the Sharp Community Medical Group received highest honors from the Pacific Business Group on Health. Only eight of these Blue Ribbon Awards were granted in the state of California, and Sharp's medical groups were the only honorees in San Diego.
Best Integrated Health Care Network in California Sharp HealthCare was named the No. 1 “Best Integrated Health Care Network” in California and No. 18 nationally by Modern Healthcare magazine in February 2007. The rankings are part of the "Top 100 Most Highly Integrated Healthcare Networks," an annual survey conducted by leading health care data analyst Verispan.
2006 Top Physician Group Honoree Sharp Rees-Stealy received the honor as California's top-performing physician group in Blue Cross of California's 2006 HMO Quality Scorecard program.
Press Ganey Summit Award Press Ganey Associates named Sharp Coronado Hospital’s Emergency Department a 2006 Summit Award Winner for sustaining the highest level of excellence in patient satisfaction. As the health care industry’s most coveted symbol of achievement, the prestigious annual award recognizes health care facilities that maintain in the top 5 percent of the Press Ganey database for at least 3 consecutive years. Sharp Coronado Hospital is one of just 61 organizations in the nation to receive this prestigious honor.
