Thank you for your interest in applying to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center's Volunteer Program. The following information will help guide you through the application process. Please note that Volunteer Services does not guarantee and is in no way related to gaining employment at Sharp Chula Vista.
All applicants must meet the following criteria:
Sharp Chula Vista Auxiliary
As a volunteer, you will be considered a member of the Sharp Chula Vista Auxiliary, which is a service organization. The mission of the Auxiliary is to render service to the hospital and its patients, assist the hospital in promoting the health and welfare of the community and conduct a fundraising program in accordance with the objectives established by the governing board of the hospital.
Membership Levels
-
Active: Active members, or senior volunteers, are required to contribute a minimum of 50 hours of service each year. This may be fulfilled by in-hospital service and/or participation in the community and fundraising activities. Initial dues are $20.
- Associate: Associate members have no requirement for minimum hours of service, but may participate as actively as they choose. Dues are $20 per year.
- Life: Life members make a special contribution to the Auxiliary and hospital by becoming permanent members of the Auxiliary. Their names are engraved on a plaque in the volunteer office. There is no minimum hours-of-service requirement. One-time dues are $150.
- Special Groups: Dues are waived for special groups such as Mended Hearts and clowns.
Application Process

- Complete the adult volunteer application form.
- Return the completed application to the Sharp Chula Vista Volunteer Services office. The application must be signed where designated. An incomplete application will not be considered.
- You will receive notification that your completed application has been received. Those applicants who are being considered for an available position will be invited to an interview. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis. Those not being considered will receive written notification. It is not our policy to give feedback as to why an applicant was not selected for an interview.
- If your application is incomplete in any way, Sharp Chula Vista Volunteer Services is not obligated to notify you.
Interview
During the interview, every attempt is made to match applicants with the appropriate service. Every effort is made to place you in your desired area, but the Volunteer Services staff reserves the right to place you in a high priority position. You reserve the right to accept or decline that position.
Orientation
After being interviewed, if you are accepted into the volunteer program, you will be notified of the requirements for health clearance before attending a mandatory New Volunteer Orientation. At orientation, hospital and Auxiliary policies and procedures and volunteer expectations will be reviewed and you will have the opportunity to pay dues and purchase the required uniform.
Placement
Once Volunteer Services receives your health clearance from Employee Health, you will be scheduled to begin your training. After you complete three on-the-job training sessions, you will be assigned your schedule and may begin to volunteer.
We do not accept court-ordered volunteers.
