Chula Vista, Calif. — Building on its longstanding commitment to providing comprehensive cancer care, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center will break ground on a new $15.5 million, 45,000-square-foot Cancer Center and Medical Office Plaza on Jan. 27, 2011. Scheduled for completion in April 2012, this new facility demonstrates Sharp Chula Vista's continued dedication to the health care needs of the growing Chula Vista community.
"Providing patients with the best possible cancer care has always been a priority of ours," said Pablo Velez, RN, PhD, senior vice president and chief executive officer of Sharp Chula Vista. "The groundbreaking of the Cancer Center and Medical Office Plaza is exciting because it means we're close to offering patients not just great care, but world-class care."
The centerpiece of the facility, the Cancer Center, will be located on the first of its three floors and features the most advanced in treatment technology, including stereotactic radiosurgery, image-guided radiation therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy and TrueBeam™, which is faster, more powerful and more accurate than any other treatment technology currently available.
Another focal point of the facility will be its unique design, featuring thoughtful touches like a private entrance for patients, a fireplace in the lobby, indoor and outdoor healing gardens and soothing colors and sounds. The Cancer Center's radiation treatment room will be the only one in San Diego County and one of only a few across the country to offer floor-to-ceiling windows with views of an outdoor landscaped tree garden, decorative rock walls and direct natural sunlight.
The facility will be built by Makena Medical Buildings Chula Vista, LLC, and will house the hospital's Infusion Center and physician offices on its second and third floors. Once complete, the facility will offer patients the convenience of all their treatment needs under one roof — right in their own community.
"As we planned the Cancer Center and Medical Office Plaza, we thought about what we would want for ourselves and our loved ones," Velez said. "We would want the best technology, a comforting environment and easy access to services, so that's what our patients will have."
