World-Class Cancer Care Has a South Bay Address

Combining state-of-the-art technology, the expertise of board-certified physicians and a patient-centered environment designed with healing in mind, the $15.5 million, 45,000-square-foot Cancer Center at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and Medical Office Plaza will build upon the hospital's long-standing commitment to providing comprehensive cancer care.

Advanced Technology
The centerpiece of the Cancer Center will be its cancer treatment technology, which will surpass anything currently offered in the South Bay and include:

  • High-dose rate brachytherapy
  • Image-guided radiation therapy
  • Intensity modulated radiation therapy
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery
  • TrueBeam™ — which is the fastest, most powerful and most accurate cancer treatment technology currently available

Healing Environment
The Cancer Center will focus on treating the whole person, to address the emotional, physical and spiritual well being of our patients while providing them with the highest quality medical care. By integrating natural light, as well as soothing colors and sounds, its aesthetics bring the outdoors inside, creating a sanctuary of comfort, relaxation and healing for all. Other thoughtful touches featured at the facility include:

  • Fireplace in the lobby
  • Private entrance for patients
  • Views of lush gardens from corridors and waiting areas

In addition, the Cancer Center's uniquely designed radiation treatment area will be the only one in San Diego and only a few in the country to feature an outdoor tree garden, decorative rock wall and direct natural sunlight.

Construction Update

 Finishing touches are put on the Cancer Center’s atrium, the centerpiece of which will be 100 custom-made, hand-painted doves suspended from the ceiling.

April 2012
The Cancer Center approaches completion as the technology is installed and finishing touches are put on the building. The Cancer Center will open this summer.
