Our Services
Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine
Four orthopedic surgeons who are fellowship-trained in sports medicine run this program in addition to caring for Olympic Training Center athletes. Procedures for rotator cuff and other muscle and tendon injuries are preformed using a minimally invasive techniques that allows many patients to go home the same day of surgery.
Joint Replacement (Knee and Hip)
Sharp HealthCare uses a multidisciplinary approach to total joint replacement surgery known as Joint Endeavor. The Joint Endeavor team includes physical therapists, specially-trained orthopedic nurses, social workers and pharmacists. Education is the cornerstone of the program. Each patient attends a pre-operative class led by a clinical nurse specialist. The class includes information on physical therapy, methods for improving mobility and techniques for handling daily activities. While in the hospital, each patient will receive a visit from the clinical nurse specialist who will guide them through their stay.
The program also offers minimally invasive knee and hip replacement. These new techniques help decrease pain, recovery time and scarring. Sharp was the first in San Diego to perform minimally invasive joint replacement surgery.
Orthopedic Surgery
Board-certified orthopedic surgeons offer care for trauma-related fractures, hands, wrist and all other bones and joints. Minimally invasive surgery is performed when possible. Sharp Chula Vista also has the only fellowship-trained traumatologist in the South Bay.
Spine and Neck
Sharp Chula Vista’s orthopedic spine surgery program includes five board-certified surgeons and offers state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment of disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. The program specializes in initial evaluations and treatment of disc disease, disc herniations, spinal stenosis, fractures, tumors, inflammatory conditions, myelopathy, radiculopathy and infections. Whenever possible, minimally invasive techniques are used.
Osteoporosis
Sharp Chula Vista imaging center offers bone density exams to patients at risk for osteoporosis, using an advanced DEXA scanner that detects changes in bone mass as small as 1 percent.
Vertebroplasty
For patients whose osteoporosis has resulted in compression fractures of the spinal vertebrae, vertebroplasty is a non-surgical injection of plastic cement into the compressed vertebrae. Performed by an interventional radiologist, vertebroplasty uses local anesthesia and intravenous sedation and only takes about one hour to complete. Back pain relief is often immediate and dramatic. Most patients can even go home the same day and resume normal activities the day after the procedure.
