Volunteer Positions

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center offers many different volunteer opportunities.

Patient Support

  • Birch Patrick aide: accompany and assist residents with a variety of daily activities
  • Infusion Center aide: work with chemotherapy patients and their families
  • Maternity aide: assist postpartum mothers, infants, families and nursing staff
  • Messenger aide: transport patients, run errands for staff, deliver supplies
    Patient companion: provide friendly visits to patients
  • Patient navigator: assist patients with the cancer treatment process

Hospitality

  • Book Cart: distribute reading materials to patients
  • Emergency Room liaison: clerical support, transport patients, tend to the needs of Emergency Room patients and family members
  • Escorts: assist pet and clown therapies throughout the hospital
    Reception and Information Desk aide: greet and escort patients and visitors in the main lobby
  • Shuttle driver: provide on-campus transportation to patients, visitors and staff

Department Support

  • Ambulatory Care aide: assist nurses and tend to needs of surgery patients and family members
  • Clerical Services: varies between hospital departments, clerical experience preferred
  • Messenger aide: acts as hospital runner
    Pharmacy aide: deliver medications to hospital units

Retail

  • Gift Shop: cashier and stock items in the hospital Gift Shop
  • Thrift Shop: cashier, merchandize and interact with customers

Specialty

  • Clown therapy: entertain patients with routine and special talents
  • Pet therapy: visit patients with your certified pet
  • Mended Hearts: consult with heart surgery patients; open to volunteers who have had heart surgery
  • Knit/Crochet Group: offer your skills or learn a new one and make handmade items for hospital patients
  • Meal Mates: assist and encourage patients in the feeding process (for pre-nursing students)
