Engineering Team Saves the Day

Jimi Perillo put his mechanical
skills to work to help a patient.

Everyone on a hospital team provides care in their own way, a fact that was evident recently when Jimi Perillo, engineering lead at Sharp Coronado Hospital, helped a woman in the emergency department free her finger from the blade of a blender.

Perillo tried both wire cutters and bolt cutters before finding success with his tin snips.

"She was very calm, and as soon as the safety guard came off, she was able to remove her finger from the blender and get a few stitches," Perillo said.

For Perillo, the event was just an extension of his primary job.

"If I’m not on my game, it throws everything off-kilter," Perillo said. "My crew and I do everything we can to help patients and coworkers, and we do everything with a smile."
