Meals on Wheels
Sharp Coronado Hospital wants to be a good neighbor. That’s why we’ve partnered with the community to bring the Meals on Wheels Program to Coronado’s homebound residents. The program not only provides participants with nutritious meals, but also offers daily interaction with a caring volunteer.
Nutrition Delivered: An Overview of the Meals on Wheels Program
The Meals on Wheels Program delivers nutritious meals to Coronado residents who are unable to prepare food on a daily basis. Thanks to contributions from the hospital and community donations, the program costs only $35 a week per participant.*
Meals are planned by a registered dietician and are based on general nutrition necessities. The meals are delivered in disposable containers. Participants must provide their own silverware and glassware.
Two Ready-to-Eat Meals Every Day
Lunch: Hot entrée, vegetable, roll or enriched grain product, fruit, dessert and milk
Dinner: Sandwich, a calcium-rich milk product or gelatin and fruit juice
For each day of service, Monday through Friday, a hospital volunteer will deliver both meals between 11 am and 1 pm. Participants are asked to be home during this time so that volunteers can provide the best service to all participants. On national holidays, Meals on Wheels will not be in service.
