Everyone could use a little help in the quest to eat right, and the personalized health and fitness plans available at Sharp Coronado Hospital’s Sewall Healthy Living Center are just what the dietitian ordered.
The service, available for $185 to community members and $130 to Sharp employees, includes a session with a registered dietitian who uses a handheld MedGem® device, often featured on The Biggest Loser, in a 15-minute test that measures oxygen consumption levels to determine precise caloric needs.
"We see people for a variety of reasons, including those who want to lose weight or have food allergies, diabetes or eating disorders," said Carolyn Mitchell, a registered dietitian at Sharp Coronado Hospital. "Our goal is to personalize every patient’s care, taking into consideration their activity levels, health issues and personal goals."
Also included is a review of the patient’s diet history; creation of a calorie goal and a personal nutrition plan; a copy of Healthy Habits for Life, a helpful book containing sample menus and other information about maintaining a healthy weight; a session with a fitness trainer to determine a personal exercise plan, and a free, two-week trial of the center’s gym.
