H1N1 (Swine) Flu

What Is H1N1 Flu?
H1N1 flu is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza. H1N1 flu does not normally infect humans. However, human infections do occur, usually after exposure to pigs. Symptoms resemble those of the regular flu, including sore throat, coughing and fever.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), H1N1 was originally referred to as "swine flu" because laboratory testing showed that many of the genes in this new virus were similar to influenza viruses that normally occur in pigs (swine) in North America.
