Signs and Symptoms of Influenza

Symptoms of influenza include:
  • Body aches
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Fever (greater than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Nasal congestion
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat

Treatment
If you or your family members are experiencing any flu-like symptoms — such as fever, cough, runny nose or sore threat — treat your condition as you would a regular flu and rest at home. Stay home until you have been fever-free (less than 100.4°) for 24 hours. Health care workers should stay home for seven days from the onset of symptoms. If your symptoms worsen, then call your doctor.

High-Risk Individuals
People with flu-like symptoms who have other chronic conditions should call their physician promptly. This includes people with heart, liver, kidney and lung conditions, those with blood or metabolic disorders (including diabetes), pregnant women, all children ages six months to four years, and anyone with suppressed immune systems.
