La Mesa, Calif. — Michael Murphy, MD, JD, has joined the executive leadership team at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in the newly-created role of chief medical officer. Dr. Murphy has more than 25 years of experience in health care, with the majority in leadership roles including quality, medical staff services and resource management.
He comes to Sharp Grossmont from the Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Ore., where he has been the vice president of medical affairs. His previous experience includes vice president of medical affairs at City Hospital in Martinsburg, Va., and private practice in Salem, Ore. In that capacity, he implemented electronic medical records and computerized billing.
Dr. Murphy received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa., and completed his residency in OB/GYN at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pa. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also obtained a law degree from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Ore.
In his new role, Dr. Murphy will present a physician perspective at the senior management level and provide medical leadership in collaboration with the senior management team, as well as work in tandem with the medical staff to further the clinical goals and strategic objectives of the hospital.
