What to Expect: Surgery at Grossmont Plaza Surgery Center

Our team of staff members and health care providers at Grossmont Plaza Surgery Center work together to ensure the best possible experience for your treatment and recovery.

Before Your Surgery
All Grossmont Plaza Surgery Center procedures are scheduled by your surgeon’s office. Please be sure to provide accurate main and alternate phone numbers for your presurgical instructions. Two to three days prior to your surgery, a registered nurse will contact you to review your general health status, verify your surgery and arrival times, provide you with your presurgical instructions and discuss any financial responsibilities. If we are unable to reach you directly, we will leave a recorded message.

  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery, including water, candy, gum, mints and chewing tobacco
  • If your insurance plan requires special authorizations or referrals, make sure your surgeon’s office has obtained them
  • If your physician requested lab work or X-rays, make sure they are completed prior to your arrival
  • Make arrangements for a responsible adult who is 18 years or older to remain with you during your procedure and to receive home-care instructions and drive you home after your surgery, as you will be unable to drive yourself home
  • Please be sure copayments, coinsurance or cash payments are settled prior to surgery

If you have questions about your upcoming surgery, call the Grossmont Plaza Surgery Center at 619-740-4561, from 9 am to 4 pm, to speak with a registered nurse.

  • Do not drive, drink alcoholic beverages or operate machinery for the first 24 hours following your procedure or while you are on any pain medication
  • Following your surgery, you will remain in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) where nurses and the anesthesiologist will monitor your condition (an average stay ranges from 30 to 90 minutes)
  • Refer to your discharge instructions or call your physician if you have any questions regarding your surgery

Parents and Guardians

If you are not the parent, please bring completed custodian/guardian documents.
