Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment in which a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure in a hyperbaric chamber. When pressurized oxygen is breathed, more of it can be dissolved into the bloodstream, allowing the body to stimulate wound healing, fight certain infections and enhance some intravenous antibiotics. Hyperbaric oxygen chambers are operated by specialized and highly trained individuals who monitor the patient and adjust levels according to tolerance and sensitivity.
