- Why Choose Sharp?
To ease your mind about what to expect prior to your hospital stay, we’ve included recommendations and suggestions to help you prepare for your visit.
Who Can Spend the Night?
Patients in the Emergency & Critical Care Center (West Tower) and Women’s Health Center can make accommodations for a designated overnight guest to stay with them at the hospital. The guest must be an adult who does not require supervision or physical assistance. Only one person may stay at a time.
Children are not allowed to stay overnight, but are welcome to visit patients during visiting hours. We request that children under 13 years of age have a watchful adult present at all times. Consider preparing your child in advance of what they might expect to see during their visit. Ask your nurse if you need assistance in explanations of various equipment and procedures.
The designated overnight guest may be present to assist the patient, partner with the health care team and provide support with:
Often when our loved ones are hospitalized we do not know what to do to help. Allowing a family member or friend to remain with the patient serves the needs of the patient, improving the overall hospital experience.
Our goal is to create a peaceful and healing environment in which patients feel nurtured and supported. The special loving touch that the guest brings, as important members of the health care team, is vital to the overall health and healing process of the patient. And as a team member, the guest is empowered to learn about and participate in the recovery of their loved one and will assist the patient in making an appropriate transition in care.
Hospital Features for Patients and Guests
If you are staying overnight as the patient’s designated guest, you may use the fold-out sleeper sofa or sleep chair located in the patient room for your convenience. All sleeper sofas and sleep chairs come with sheets, a blanket, a pillow, and a pillowcase for your personal use. A staff member can explain how the bed works and where the linens are located.
Sharp Grossmont Hospital offers several vending machines, a gift shop, cafeteria, ATM, and coffee cart for your convenience. If you would like to bring a laptop computer with you for your stay, we have free wireless Internet connections available throughout the hospital.
