Sharp Grossmont Hospital’s clown program was established in 1994 and is managed by the hospital’s volunteer services. Today, the clown program includes 10 clowns — all who truly believe in the healing power of laughter — for both patients and hospital staff.
San Diego All Star Clown Club
The volunteer clowns at Sharp Grossmont Hospital are all specially trained by and are members of The San Diego All Star Clown Club. The Club performs free of charge for health-related fundraising events and appear in most parades in the San Diego area. During National Clown Week, Aug. 1 to 7, the club participates in a minimum of two events per day in the San Diego Community. The purpose of National Clown Week is to promote the art of clowning.
