This course will teach critical care and progressive care registered nurses how to provide treatment to patients with a traumatic brain injury.

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  1. Understand basics of intracranial pressure management
  2. Discuss the impact of brain injury relative to brain anatomy and mechanism of injury
  3. Discuss complications related to brain injury including:
  • Fluid and electrolyte disturbances
  • Secondary brain injury
  • Systemic complications including pressure ulcers, nutrition imbalances and altered mobility
