The Women on Wheels (WOW) Support Group gathers to share thoughts and feelings about current life challenges, victories and visions. The group is made up primarily of women in wheelchairs; however, women of all ages and disabilities are welcome to attend the group's support groups, educational groups and social events.
Past discussion topics have included:
- Coping with the holidays
The women-only group has enjoyed attending plays, art therapy sessions and potluck summer parties. Joining the group is a great opportunity to offer support to one another in a safe environment.
Patients may park in the Sharp Rees-Stealy/Rehabilitation lot in front of the building or in parking structures located on Birmingham Drive or Health Center Drive. Parking fees may apply.
Advance registration for the group is not required; however, special events hosted by the group require an RSVP.
Support groups are for women only. Caregivers and family are invited to social events.
This event is facilitated by Sharp Rehab social workers. Regina Eldred, LCSW, has worked for Sharp for many years and is the social worker for the Community Re-entry Program at Sharp Rehab. Jennifer Burdeaux, MSW, is an inpatient medical social worker at Sharp Rehab.
