Acts of kindness are contagious — they cause chain reactions that spread and transform lives. This positive ripple effect can uplift the human spirit and make people feel the need to pay it forward.
In this vein, the Sharp HealthCare Foundation created The Guardian Angel Program, which allows patients and their loved ones to pay a thoughtful tribute to those staff members who made their health care experience exceedingly gratifying. Each Guardian Angel receives a card informing them of a donation made in his or her name, as well as a custom-crafted lapel pin.
Three Sharp Health Plan employees were recently bestowed with the title Guardian Angel for their compassionate work with patients: Customer Care Representative La'quetta Glasper and Case Managers Selomie Negusse-Noeth and Robyn Nolin.
Glasper helped a member through some timely health insurance questions. Thanks to her diligence, the member received vital medication; she even called the pharmacy herself to run a claim and it cleared with no problems.
To say this member is grateful for Glasper's hard work is an understatement. This member made a generous donation to the Sharp Outpatient Pavilion Oncology Fund in Glasper's name. "Receiving this Guardian Angel Award means more than words can explain. I'm so grateful and honored to receive this huge recognition," she says.
Negusse-Noeth and Nolin each responded to a medical situation at work, helping an employee through an emergency by providing care, compassion and their health care expertise. Both are registered nurses. "We calmly assessed the gentleman, called 911 and tended to his needs until an ambulance arrived and took over," says Nolin.
Negusse-Noeth was surprised to learn of her recognition. "I found out when my co-workers were congratulating me the morning I came in to work. I had to access my email to find out what the congratulations were for. I'm very appreciative and so happy that something we did made a positive difference in someone's life," she says.
"I am honored and very thankful for the recognition we received," says Nolin. "It truly was a team effort and something that we do without questioning why. I think all of the employees at Sharp Health Plan work very hard and sometimes things happen that we don't expect while being at work. We are a strongly linked family here at the Health Plan and go out of our way to help those in need; not just for our members but for anyone, including each other."
