Seventeen years ago, Melissa Cappuccilli’s doctors warned her that her life could be shortened by a failing heart.
After years of undergoing a number of heart treatments, Melissa’s doctors told her she would need a new heart. Under the care of Dr. Rob Adamson, a cardiothoracic surgeon affiliated with Sharp Memorial Hospital, Melissa became Sharp’s 379th heart transplant recipient in November 2013.
In 2016, Melissa joined the Sharp HealthCare team for the annual Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association. This was Melissa’s third year on the Sharp team.
In the video above, Melissa shares her story and the reason why she walks.
