Heart Failure Quality of Care Report

How does Sharp HealthCare rate in heart failure care?
Heart failure is usually caused by a weakened heart muscle. Certain types of care have been shown to improve the health of heart failure patients. The chart below shows the percent of heart failure patients receiving all recommended care during hospitalization. The national average and national top 10% of scores are shown for comparison. Higher scores mean a higher percent of patients received all recommended care.

Recommended Heart Failure Care

  • The patient’s heart function (left ventricular systolic function) is measured
  • Patients who have poor heart function (left ventricular systolic dysfunction) are given an appropriate medication to treat this.  These  medications are called ACE Inhibitors or ARBs
  • Patients who smoke are counseled to quit
  • Patients are given complete instructions on how to manage their heart failure before discharge
