Bereavement Support Groups

Sharp HospiceCare's Bereavement Department provides grief education, support and referral services throughout San Diego. Our staff of skilled mental health professionals specializes in bereavement and aims to increase community awareness about grieving. The following support groups are provided free of charge. Donations are graciously accepted.

  • Straight Talk About Grief and Loss
    Tuesdays, April 13 to June 15
    6 to 8 pm

    Each session covers a different topic and is always open for walk-ins. Ample time is given for discussion and questions. This is a drop-in group. No preregistration or screening required.

  • Widows/Widowers' Group
    Wednesdays, June 30 to Aug. 4

    This six-week group will address concerns of men and women who have lost their spouse. Participants will share their emotional challenges, receive support from others in similar life situations, and learn coping skills. Please note, a screening interview is required prior to participation in this group. Please register by Friday, June 18.

  • The Mindful Heart Workshop
    Saturday, Aug. 7
    10 am to 3 pm

    This experiential workshop is designed to help the bereaved better manage the emotional and physical stressors associated with grief and loss. Attendees will explore how mindfulness approaches such as breathing, meditation, imagery, and relaxation techniques help enhance the healing process. Please note, a screening interview is required prior to participation in this workshop. Please register by Friday, July 23.

  • Parent Loss Seminar
    Thursday, Sept. 23
    6 to 9 pm

    This seminar will address the concerns of men and women who have gone through the life-changing experience of losing a parent. Please note, a screening interview is required prior to participation in this seminar. Please register by Friday, Sept. 10.
