Sharp Grossmont Hospital has provided more than 50 years of service to the community. With 536 licensed beds, the hospital is known for its outstanding programs in cardiac care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, behavioral health, neurology, women and children’s health and hospice care. We also offer extensive outpatient services and prevention programs such as home infusion, sleep disorder care, wound care and hyperbaric medicine in support of Sharp HealthCare’s emphasis on health and wellness.

Acute Rehabilitation Center
This center services inpatient rehabilitation orthopedics patients as well as patients affected by stroke, brain injury and spinal cord injury.

Ambulatory Care Center (ACC)
ACC treats preprocedural care for all inpatient and outpatient surgeries and postprocedural care for outpatient only. Patient population includes main OR, women's center, cardiac cath lab, interventional radiology and nuclear medicine.

Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC)
AIC provides outpatient care for a diverse patient population with infusion therapy provided by a specialized team of nurses. Nurses are trained to perform infusion procedures and are knowledgeable and practiced in a full range of infusion therapies including: chemotherapy, IVIG, blood transfusion, hydration, therapeutic phlebotomy, venous access insertion and maintenance, iron infusions and more. AIC currently has 11 treatment stations.

Behavioral Health Services
Sharp Grossmont's Behavioral Health Services provides psychiatric care to adults and senior adults with a psychiatric diagnosis as well as concurrent medical and substance abuse. We offer training classes for psychiatric emergencies, psychiatric nursing education, preceptorship and mentorship.

Emergency & Critical Care Center
Sharp Grossmont Hospital recently expanded its Emergency and Critical Care Center (E&CCC) with the addition of 90 new patient beds. As San Diego County's busiest emergency department, Sharp Grossmont's E&CCC is the busiest community emergency department, treating more than 80,000 patients a year. The expansion enables Sharp Grossmont to serve an estimated 100,000 emergency patients annually and reduce wait times in the emergency room.

We are a county-designated STEMI center, recognized for implementing new cardiac protocols that meet county and national guidelines for treating acute MI patients. Additionally, we are a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center, providing rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients.

From our rural, back-country areas, the ED's helipad receives patients with medical emergencies, such as snake bites, heat stroke and heart attacks. Currently, we run 43 acute-care beds 24 hours a day, plus 21 minor-care and observation beds that are open during high-volume hours. We have a well developed new graduate and experienced RN orientation program. Opportunities for growth include Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN), advanced clinician, clinical lead and our new ICU/ED rotation.

Endoscopy
Endoscopy has six procedure rooms. Diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopic services are offered at Sharp Grossmont.

Heart and Vascular Services
Sharp Grossmont Hospital's award-winning Heart and Vascular Services has been recognized as a leader in heart and vascular care and surgery in San Diego, treating a full range of patients with heart and vascular conditions such as congestive heart failure, heart attacks, hypertension, angina/chest pain, valve disease, arrhythmias, aneurysms and peripheral vascular diseases. Sharp Grossmont was one of the first facilities to use minimally invasive techniques in cardiac surgery and now offers minimally invasive, noninvasive and surgical procedures to treat a number or heart and vascular conditions.

Hyperbaric Medicine at the Wound Healing Center
Sharp Grossmont Hospital is one of the few hospitals in San Diego County to offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. It is used to treat patients with certain diabetic wounds, radiation injuries after cancer treatments, decompression illness ("the bends") and some types of infection.

Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
MICU includes critically ill medical patients and surgical overflow patients. Patients may also include CHF, massive MI, abdominal surgery and multiple organ failures. With full-view nursing stations, automated medical and supply stations and in-room restroom facilities, the unit is one of the most efficiently designed in the County. Also nurse-implemented CVVHD (Prisma) and nurse-managed IABPs.

Sharp Home Infusion Services
This team provides patients throughout San Diego County with infusion therapy provided by a specialized team of nurses, pharmacists, technicians and dietitians. Home Infusion nurses are trained to perform high-tech infusion procedures and are knowledgeable and practiced in a full range of infusion therapies and venous access management.

Sharp HospiceCare
Sharp HospiceCare focuses on a patient's physical, psychological and spiritual needs, providing comprehensive end-of-life care to patients with life-limiting illness who have decided, with the support of their physician and family members, to forego further curative treatment in favor of comfort measures.

Sharp HospiceCare's innovative programs include two hospice homes — LakeView Home in La Mesa, and ParkView Home in Del Cerro. Designed to deliver specialized care and and compassionate support to patients and their families within a comforting homelike environment, these homes are the only places of their kind in San Diego County.

Surgical Intensive Care Unit
This unit consisting of pre- and post-operative patients including craniotomies, open heart, vascular and general surgeries. Additionally, we care for critically ill medical patients and offer a quarterly critical care training program.

Surgical Services
This unit is comprised of highly skilled RNs and surgical technologists, and houses 12 operating rooms that perform all inpatient surgical specialties, including open heart. Sharp Grossmont Hospital has a nationally recognized total joint replacement program. In addition, the Grossmont Plaza Surgery Center is a freestanding outpatient surgery center. Its four operating rooms provide all outpatient procedures with a primary and secondary recovery area.

Women’s Health Center and OBGYN
The Women's Health Center is a specialized unit that consists of 72 beds, including 24 labor, delivery and recovery suites; three-bed triage suite; 3 operating rooms with a four-bed PACU; 24-private-bed-postpartum/GYN unit with transition nursery; a 24-bed Level IIIA NICU; and 11-bed pediatrics/women’s surgical unit with a triage room.

Our OBGYN unit is a 24 private-bed unit that provides family-centered care to mother-baby couplets and postsurgical gynecological patients. Our staff is comprised of nurses, lactation specialists, nursing assistants and unit clerks. Our orientation and preceptorship programs are individualized to meet our new employees' needs.

2 East, Medical — Surgical/Oncology
This unit provides care to a mix of oncology, pulmonary and medical/surgical patients. Two East offers opportunity for career advancement and diversity. We offer oncology training classes, chemotherapy certification and mentorships for individuals interested in pursing oncology.

3 East, Surgical Acute Care
This fast-paced unit focuses on orthopedics, neurosurgery and general surgery patients. We offer a great environment for building assessment and hands-on skills, and the opportunity to experience a wide variety of diagnoses. We enjoy a close-knit unit with many long-term dedicated staff members, an excellent and supportive multidisciplinary team, self-scheduling, growth and participative opportunities.

4 East, Surgical Progressive Care Unit
This unit cares for a variety of patients, from postcardiac interventional and pre-op coronary artery bypass patients, to postsurgical/medical patients that require cardiac monitoring. We are the specialty floor for CAPD, peripheral ultrafiltration (PUF) and surgical flap for reconstructive surgery.

4 West, Progressive Care Unit — Telemetry

Unit 4 West treats CHF, cardiac, pneumonia, diabetes, liver disease, respiratory and GI patients. This unit promotes optimal patient care in a collaborative environment and provide an intermediate level of quality nursing care for a diverse patient population that includes ECG monitoring and assessment.

5 East Progressive Care Unit — Stroke
Unit 5 East is our Neuro/Stroke unit. Sharp Grossmont Hospital is one of two Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers in San Diego County, and the only hospital in the County with a designated stroke unit. This unit provides you with the opportunity to work with PCU/telemetry level of care and gain specialized skills in acute stroke care.

5 West, Progressive Care Unit — Post-Open Heart/Ventilary Patients
As the original telemetry unit at Sharp Grossmont, 5 West cares for post-open heart surgery, pulmonary and all stable (trach) ventilator patients. The team receives specialized training in ventilators and epicardial pacing skills. This unit delivers a higher level of care outside of ICUs, making it a good place to start for RNs with no critical care experience.
