Employees discuss teamwork and how it affects their job at Sharp

Colleen Murphy, RN: One of the things that is wonderful about The Sharp Experience is how it’s changed how we do what we do. We work together as a team. We all have a common goal; we work in a common direction. We are the ultimate team. There’s no competition between departments or people. We really feel like we’re one group moving together in the same direction.

Colleen McNally, MD: Yeah, that’s what’s really nice about being at Sharp. It really is a team effort. The neonatologists, pediatricians, the nurses are all phenomenal.

Lien Giang, Pharmacist: We get to work more directly with the nurses because we’re up on the floors with them. I feel like we work very well as a team when they get to know me. You get face-to-face interaction with the nurse and you get to know the patients on that floor a little bit better.

Colleen Murphy: It was teamwork that helped us achieve magnet designation at two of our hospitals. It’s nursing’s highest honor, and it really shines a light on the relationship we share with all of the clinical team members at Sharp.

Colleen McNally: You know, you come to work, you know that it’s a team effort. We all do our bit for the patients. And at the end of the day I think we all leave happy knowing that we did a good job.

Colleen Murphy: One of the advantages of working for Sharp is the relationship we have with physicians. I honestly feel that that relationship is unique to something that Sharp has grown. The Sharp Experience, our attitude about being the best place to work, the best place to practice medicine really ties our common goals together. We realize that we need them, they need us, but together we’re a dynamic team working for that patient.

Megan Mueller, Hand Therapist: Everyone is always asking how can I help you with this. And so we try and work together as a team here, so that we all kind of share the load.

Colleen Murphy:  It’s a good experience. We enjoy working with them, they enjoy working with us, and you can sense that in the atmosphere in all of our units.

Rosie Zaizar, Radiologic Technologist: It really makes you want to come to work, if you have good teamwork.

Colleen McNally: And we get along. We treat each other with respect.

Marianne Gutierrez, RN: Can I help you with this? Do you need this information? I can cover for you on this weekend. You don’t even have to ask, which is so amazing to me. The offer is always there, and it’s heartfelt. Can I help you?

Colleen Murphy:  And we have something called the All-Staff Event, where once a year we pull together all of our 18,000 employees, physicians, volunteers, and we celebrate all of the accomplishments we’ve made. And it really reignites us. It reminds us of what we’re doing and how we really do make a difference in these people’s lives. It reminds us of our purpose.

Marianne:  It’s great. It’s the best place in town to work.
