At 20 years old, Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns is looking better than ever, celebrating a milestone anniversary just as its major renovation enters the final stage.

Since 1992, the hospital has been a beacon in the community, known for delivering more babies than any other hospital in the state and for giving even the smallest of newborns the best start at life. The modern design of Sharp Mary Birch's new patient rooms and specialized units further complement the extraordinary level of care delivered by the hospital's staff.

Giving Sharp Mary Birch a new look while maintaining full operations has been no small feat for San Diego's busiest hospital for women and newborns, says Trisha Khaleghi, senior vice president and CEO of Sharp Mary Birch.

"A calming environment is essential for our patients who are expecting a new child or undergoing surgery," Khaleghi said. "One of our top priorities is to ensure our construction is carried out in a way that minimizes disruptions for our staff, visitors and patients."

A lot of research went into picking colors, décor and furnishings that represent nature, such as muted blue, green and soft beige, accented by wood flooring and furnishings with warm tones.

Other highlights of the renovation include:

In addition to the completed units, construction is currently underway on a new administration area and the Women's Acute Care Unit on the second floor. The beautification of Sharp Mary Birch will also include an updated look for the lobby and entrance as well as new landscaping to welcome families to the hospital.
