Health educators at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns know that a woman’s health is essential to the well being of her family, and they offer a wide variety of classes to show mothers how to prepare themselves for childbirth and manage their babies’ care after delivery.
“We care about you and your new family, and we provide help and resources before and after birth,” said Nicole Giangregorio, manager of Women’s Support Programs at Sharp Mary Birch. “Evidence shows that women who have been to childbirth education classes are calmer, less anxious and enjoy the childbirth experience more than women who don’t attend. And in these classes, long-term friendships are formed. Some folks are new to San Diego — many are military families — and it’s an excellent way for them to meet other parents and tap into new resources.”
Popular classes include:
“Yoga gives moms an opportunity to relax and de-stress,” Giangregorio said. “It prepares mom’s body for childbirth with stretching, toning and getting them into shape. Childbirth is a marathon, and women can use yoga to start training for the marathon early.”
Classes are always evolving and include evidence-based information, and many are offered during hours that give working moms the opportunity to attend. To view a complete list of prenatal and parenting classes offered at Sharp, visit Childbirth and Parenting Classes.
