Baby Lily, her mother, Vera, and her grandmother, Elvira.
What are the odds?
Vera and Mathew Lambert of San Diego can’t stop asking that question. On Sept. 9, the couple welcomed baby Lily at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns — the birthday of both Vera and her mother.
Lily’s due date wasn’t until Sept. 18, and though Vera always loved sharing her birthday with her mother, she was determined to let Lily decide her own birthday. Yet, on the evening of Sept. 9, Vera began experiencing headaches and was told to go to the hospital to make sure she and Lily were all right.
Doctors became concerned for both mom and baby after monitoring Vera’s blood pressure. They recommended a Cesarean section that night, not knowing the birthday connection. Vera called her mother, Elvira, who also lives locally, to tell her the news.
“It all happened so fast,” said Vera, who was scheduled to attend her own birthday party that night. “We just couldn’t believe she was going to be born on the 9th.”
Lily was born at 11:11 pm, weighing 5 pounds, 5 ounces.
“I think it will be fun to celebrate all of our birthdays together,” Vera said. “It’s such a great story to tell.”
