What are the options when a family member or friend refuses to go to treatment?
One option is to work directly with an interventionist — a trained specialist who will help to structure an intervention meeting with the addict and their family members/significant others. People sometimes engage in self-destructive behavior, rejecting any assistance others may offer. An intervention, when done correctly, is extremely effective in helping these people accept help. To learn more about this process and receive a referral to an interventionist, please call Sharp McDonald Center at 1-800-734-3477.

What is the visitation policy at Sharp McDonald Center?
Visiting hours for relatives and immediate family members are on Sundays from 2:30 to 5 pm. In addition, family members who attend our Family Care Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 pm can visit relatives immediately following the program.

Does Sharp McDonald Center work with insurance companies?
Our admissions representatives will contact your insurance company directly to find out how much coverage you are eligible to receive. We will also provide an estimate for uncovered costs and offer self-pay options if your coverage is limited.

What items should patients bring during their stay?
We recommend one week’s worth of casual comfortable clothing, toiletries, a telephone card and no more than $20 in cash. Cell phones, radios and outside reading materials are discouraged and we recommend these items be left at home. If you take medication, please bring the original pill bottles with you. Since parking is limited, please have someone drop you off at the facility instead of leaving your vehicle.

Is mail accepted during treatment?
Yes, patients are allowed to receive mail while they are in treatment. Mail can be sent to: Sharp McDonald Center, c/o patient’s name, 7989 Linda Vista Road, San Diego, CA 92111.
