Sharp HospiceCare's Newest Facility to Open to Patients
First-of-its-kind hospice residence in San Diego’s South Bay.
Sharp HospiceCare’s newest hospice residence, BonitaView Home, is now open to patients. The state-licensed facility is the first of its kind in the South Bay area of San Diego County for end-of-life care designed around the needs of patients and their families. BonitaView Home provides understanding, expertise, guidance and medical and emotional support at the end of a loved one’s treasured life.
“This home is a sacred place for those making life’s final journey,” says Suzi K. Johnson, vice president of Sharp HospiceCare. “We are proud to now offer families in the South Bay access to Sharp HospiceCare's compassionate end-of-life care in a warm, homelike setting.”
BonitaView Home features more than 5,600 square feet of living space, six large patient rooms with private patios, a spacious living room, kitchen, dining room, library, meditation room and wheelchair-accessible garden patio overlooking a tree-lined river valley.
All of the architecture and décor at the BonitaView Home was planned with attention to Bonita's historical values — incorporating arched windows, stucco and clay tiles in the hacienda-style estate.
Patients and families at BonitaView Home will be cared for by an extraordinary team of registered nurses, social workers, bereavement counselors, spiritual care counselors, certified home health aides, volunteers, homemakers and physicians.
BonitaView Home, like the other two residences (LakeView and ParkView) in the Sharp system, was funded entirely through charitable contributions to Grossmont Hospital Foundation. Scott and Susan McMillin made the lead contribution and chaired the effort to raise more than $3 million to build, equip and endow BonitaView Home.
