Sharp HospiceCare Raises $545,000 During Annual Regatta
On August 26 and 27, 2016, Sharp HospiceCare held its fourteenth annual Sharp HospiceCare Benefit Dinner and Regatta.
Thirteen hundred people attended the regatta weekend events, including former Major League Baseball player David Justice. The event raised $545,000 for Sharp HospiceCare, breaking last year's record by $200,000.
"We are so grateful to our San Diego community for coming together to financially support the programs and services of Sharp HospiceCare," says Suzi K. Johnson, vice president of Sharp HospiceCare. "We celebrated another successful year because of the countless volunteers and generous donors who continue to support such a worthy cause."
The festivities kicked off Friday evening with a pre-race dinner and silent auction at Hotel del Coronado, followed by the regatta on Saturday, where guests enjoyed lunch, dinner and music at the Coronado Yacht Club. They also had the opportunity to board yachts and cruise along San Diego Bay for a breathtaking view of the race course. There were 38 spectator boat yachts and 44 racers in the regatta.
The regatta winner was the race boat Por Boys owned by Neil Senturia. Senturia has participated in every Sharp HospiceCare regatta since it began in 2003. He is the only boat owner to win three times at the regatta.
Hosted by Sharp HospiceCare, Coronado Yacht Club and Cortez Racing Association, the event supports Sharp HospiceCare's Homes for Hospice program, which offers a unique environment for patients with a life-limiting illness, to meet their needs in a comfortable home setting.
This is the tenth year Sharp HospiceCare has been working with Cortez Racing Association. It is also the tenth year Bob "Bubbles" Nordgren has been the Coronado Yacht Club spectator boat host liaison for the regatta.
In the eleven years the event has been held at the Coronado Yacht Club, over $2.9 million has been raised for Sharp HospiceCare.
