CustomVue: Individualized Laser Vision Correction

Individualized laser vision correction procedure is approved by the FDA.

The Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion Vision Center offers the FDA-approved CustomVue individualized laser vision correction procedure, a major breakthrough for the correction of nearsightedness and astigmatism.

The treatment provides for the measurement and correction of the unique imperfections in each individual’s vision. As shown in a clinical study, this precise level of measurement and correction potentially enables individuals to achieve vision better than is possible with glasses and contact lenses.

The procedure is based on WaveScan® technology — originally intended for high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space.

“Glasses and contact lenses are limited in their ability to correct unique imperfections in each individual’s vision,” said Richard Leung, MD. “In fact, thousands of individuals have the same prescription. However, much like a fingerprint, each eye has its own unique wave pattern. With WaveScan technology, we are able to carefully measure the unique characteristics of each individual’s vision and develop a treatment plan tailored just for that person’s eyes.”
