Glaucoma Services

Offering diagnosis and treatment.

Glaucoma is a group of conditions in which the normal fluid pressure inside the eyes — intraocular pressure, or IOP — slowly rises as a result of the fluid in the eye not being able to drain properly. If draining does not occur, the fluid collects and causes pressure damage to the optic nerve. If undetected or untreated, glaucoma may result in the loss of vision.

Glaucoma Services at Sharp
Sharp offers diagnosis and treatment for various types of glaucoma, including:

  • Angle closure
  • Childhood
  • Congenital
  • Low tension or normal tension
  • Open angle
  • Primary and secondary

Treatment may include medication, conventional surgery or laser surgery. Laser surgeries may include the Diode (Thermal) Laser or YAG Laser procedures. In each, the patients’ eyes may be dilated, yet there will be little or no discomfort.

Glaucoma laser treatment is available at the Sharp Vision Center in the Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion.
