Founded in 1954, the Sharp Memorial Hospital Auxiliary supports Sharp Memorial Hospital and Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns with community service, education, fundraising and scholarships. The 501(c)3 nonprofit group also helps achieve Sharp’s mission through volunteer services to all the hospitals at the Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus.

Each year, more than 700 volunteers dedicate 90,000 hours of service to these entities. The group also supports the hospitals by fundraising for facilities, events and initiatives. Since its inception, these gifts have totaled more than $5 million. Major fundraising sources include two gift shops in Sharp Memorial Hospital, a portion of sales from the New Beginnings Boutique & Gift Shop in Sharp Mary Birch, baby pictures and vendor sales.

The Auxiliary’s most transformative gifts include:

  • $240,000 toward the original construction of Sharp Mary Birch and $500,000 to the hospital’s recent renovations
  • $1 million toward Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion
  • $500,000 toward Stephen Birch Healthcare Center at Sharp Memorial
  • $75,000 to Sharp HospiceCare’s Homes for Hospice

In June 2014, the Auxiliary will celebrate its 60th anniversary.
