New Sharp Memorial Hospital: View Our Expansion

On April 24, 1955, Sharp Memorial Community Hospital first opened its doors. More than 50 years later, the new Sharp Memorial Hospital continues Sharp's long-held commitment of offering clinical excellence with the latest technology and patient-focused care. The 315,000-square-foot, 334-bed facility includes:

  • 48 private intensive care rooms with sleeping space for family
  • Every room is a private room with its own bathroom
  • Jade garden and family resource center
  • Larger Emergency and Trauma Center with 37 emergency treatment bays and 10 emergency observation beds
  • New surgery center with 10 state-of-the-art surgery suites

Many of the new hospital's design elements were inspired by Sharp caregivers. Opened on Jan. 14, 2009, the new Sharp Memorial Hospital is San Diego's first new hospital in more than 15 years.
