Women’s Imaging Center at Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion Designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

SAN DIEGO — The Women’s Imaging Center at Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This center is a vital part of the Sharp Memorial Hospital Cancer Institute’s Breast Cancer Center.

By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

The breast imaging services at the Women’s Imaging Center at Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that the Women’s Imaging Center at Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

“Undergoing screenings and being vigilant about breast cancer detection are essential to maintaining breast health,” said Dr. Robert Yacullo, medical director of imaging at Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion. “This recent Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation further enables our patients to have peace of mind knowing that they’re getting the best care possible.”

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists with programs for focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
