Later life can bring profound changes in physical, social and psychological functioning. For some older adults, these changes can feel overwhelming and can lead to the onset of serious problems in mental health including depression or suicidal thoughts, anxiety, memory problems, disordered thoughts, confusion, agitation and sleep disturbances.

Sharp HealthCare's inpatient older adult programs accommodate the special needs of seniors. Each patient is under the care of a psychiatrist who directs a treatment team of registered nurses, social workers, activity therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists and mental health workers, all trained to identify the special behavioral and physical health needs of seniors. Treatment focuses on helping to restore or maintain function while helping to achieve the highest level of independence possible.

Older adult outpatient services include:

  • Older Adult Outpatient Program
    Designed for individuals who are in an acute crisis, exhibiting a worsening of a severe or persistent mental disorder or experiencing severe symptoms of mental illness that continue to need intensive treatment and support after they have been cared for in the hospital.
  • Outpatient Programs
    Specialty programs offering cognitive treatment of depression and treatment services for dually diagnosed older adults.
