I can no longer manage my elderly parent. Do you have any programs that deal with the special behavioral needs of the elderly?
It’s important to discuss all of the issues with your parent’s primary care physician. Once the level of behavioral issues has been addressed, your doctor can refer you to Sharp Mesa Vista’s Older Adult Treatment Program. Each patient is under the care of a psychiatrist who directs a treatment team of registered nurses, social workers, activity therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists and mental health workers who are all trained to identify the special behavioral health needs of seniors.

Sharp Mesa Vista has a full continuum of senior behavioral health services ranging from inpatient partial hospitalization to intensive outpatient services. All services are provided under a psychiatrist’s direction and are done in collaboration with the patient’s private medical physician. Call to discuss your parent’s specific needs with our intake specialist.

My adult child has schizophrenia and is not taking the prescribed medication. Do you have any programs that can help?
Sharp Mesa Vista specializes in the treatment of schizophrenia and offers both inpatient and outpatient programs depending on the level of treatment needed. Each program starts with a complete psychiatric assessment; most often appropriate medications and group psychotherapy are prescribed along with a wide-ranging psychosocial assessment. All programs are based on a psychiatric rehabilitation philosophy with a goal of recovery and successful reintegration into the community for each patient.

I think I may have a chemical dependency problem. Do you have a program that can help?
Sharp Mesa Vista’s Chemical Dependency Treatment Program offers inpatient detoxification psychosocial evaluation, individualized treatment plans, educational groups, development of support systems, family education and aftercare.

How can I get help for my child who is having serious behavior problems in school?
Your first step would be to talk to a Sharp Mesa Vista intake specialist to discuss your child’s symptoms and behaviors. After the level of behavioral issues is determined, the intake specialist can refer you to the appropriate child or adolescent outpatient program. If your child is abusing drugs or alcohol, we can also refer you to Changes, a comprehensive treatment program to help adolescents and families deal with the problems related to developing and maintaining a sober and drug-free lifestyle.

My adult child is bipolar but is refusing to get help. What can I do?
Sharp Mesa Vista has a cognitive treatment program designed to treat adults experiencing depression, anxiety or posttraumatic stress disorder. The program offers a supportive therapeutic setting for patients experiencing significant disruption in daily living and takes a short-term, group-oriented, cognitive-behavioral approach to care. All of the outpatient programs at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital are voluntary. An intake specialist can work with you and your family member to assess the need for inpatient psychiatric care.
