Programs designed to meet the special needs of seniors

Sharp Mesa Vista’s Older Adult Services program is designed for older adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety or other mental health problems. Older adults are often faced with issues related to retirement, loss of a loved one or changing roles within the family. These issues can contribute to psychological symptoms. Our geriatric medicine team creates an accepting and warm approach to treatment that provides a comfortable and welcoming place to heal.

We offer a multidisciplinary treatment team that includes a psychiatrist, psychologist, registered nurse, social worker, and marriage and family therapist.

Programs and Services
Sharp Mesa Vista offers both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.

Inpatient Programs
The Older Adult Inpatient Program is designed specifically for adults age 65 and older and is staffed by a multidisciplinary treatment team who specialize in working with geriatric medicine. We treat a variety of issues, including:

• Dementia (confusion, memory loss and disorientation)
• Mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder, seasonal affective disorder)
• Other severe mental illness issues such as schizophrenia and psychosis

Outpatient Programs
The Senior Intensive Outpatient Program incorporates a mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy model designed specifically for older adults. Our program helps older adults with issues such as these:

• Addictions (dual diagnosis)
• Anxiety (obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, phobias)
• Bipolar disorder
• Depression

Our Team
Our team members are specifically trained to work with older adults. Our lead psychologist is a geropsychologist with a PhD in clinical health psychology and our clinical director is a specialist in geriatric psychiatry and addictions medicine, as well as a distinguished fellow in the American Psychiatric Association.
