Stroke Education and Screening

This San Diego program focuses on stroke signs and symptoms.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the No. 1 cause of disability in adults in the U.S. In an effort to reduce the incidence and severity of stroke in our community, Sharp HealthCare's Orthopedics and Neurosciences Department sponsors a community-based Stroke Smart Education and Screening Program.

Stroke Smart consists of an education program and screening process. The education segment teaches about the signs and symptoms of stroke and urges individuals and their family, friends and neighbors to treat these signs and symptoms as an emergency. The Stroke Smart screening process helps individuals identify their particular risk factors for stroke and assists them in determining appropriate lifestyle changes.
