Health Tip: Using a Pedometer
Some handy suggestions
(HealthDay News) -- A pedometer measures the amount of steps you take while walking or running. The size of a small portable phone, it attaches to a belt or waistband.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs mentions these guidelines for using a pedometer:
- Make sure the pedometer is attached with its clip and leash, and that it doesn't get dropped or lost.
- Make sure the pedometer doesn't get wet.
- Initially walk a minimum of 20 steps, to ensure the pedometer is measuring your steps properly. If it doesn't appear to be counting your steps correctly, reposition the device.
- Note that a pedometer isn't able to measure activity from cycling or swimming.
