Health Tip: Lower Your Risk for Osteoporosis
(HealthDay News) -- Some risk factors for osteoporosis you can't control -- such as your age, heritage and family history of the brittle bones condition.
But the womenshealth.gov website says there are risk factors than you can control, including:
Getting plenty of calcium in your diet each day.
Getting plenty of daily vitamin D.
Eating a healthy, balanced and nutrient-rich diet.
Getting plenty of weight-bearing exercise.
Avoiding smoking and drinking alcohol in moderation.
Taking medication to reduce bone loss, if your doctor recommends it.
