(HealthDay News) -- A temporary tattoo may seem like a harmless alternative to the permanent option, but even a temporary tattoo has potential side effects, experts say.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says these side effects could include:

  • Redness where a tattoo is applied.

  • Blistering skin.

  • Formation of red skin lesions.

  • Loss of skin pigmentation.

  • Greater sensitivity to sunlight.

  • Permanent scarring.
