Jamie: The cops brought me to my parents’ house and they showed my arms, and the track marks that I had, and they said, "You know, if you don’t get your daughter help, she’s only 17, she’s going to die."
Penny Rothschild: The face of addiction now, we’re seeing from 14, you know, as young as 11, heroin, IV drug use.
Jamie: I wanted my life back, but I didn’t know what to do or how to do it.
Penny: What happens here is they find an array of services, and people that are like them, that understand them.
Patient: We are like, at step zero, at like, getting this stuff out of our bodies. I really hope that you can do this.
Jamie: I know I can.
Penny: Jamie stayed here eight days, she’s off to her 30-day residential treatment program. The old theory used to be tough love, you know, let ‘em hit rock bottom. In their disease, bottom is death. This is better than tough love.
