SAN DIEGO — Sharp Coronado and Sharp Memorial hospitals received the 2011 Outstanding Patient Experience Award from HealthGrades, a leading health care data research company. This distinction ranks the facilities in the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide based on an analysis of patient satisfaction data for 3,797 U.S. hospitals.
Sharp Memorial's score also included patient data from Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns, a specialty hospital adjacent to Sharp Memorial on Sharp's Metropolitan Medical Campus in Serra Mesa.
"We've worked hard at Sharp to enhance how we interact with and serve our patients and their families," said Mike Murphy, president and CEO of Sharp HealthCare. "Through our Sharp Experience initiative, we strive to exceed our patients' expectations every day, and receiving this award is recognition of the success of those efforts."
HealthGrades utilized HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) hospital survey data obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), from April 2009 to March 2010. Of the nearly 3,800 hospitals surveyed, 339 were designated as recipients of this year's Outstanding Patient Experience Award. These hospitals had to meet bed size, survey-response size and clinical-quality thresholds in order to be eligible for the award.
