SAN DIEGO — Sharp HealthCare has been named a winner in the large hospital category (351+ beds) of the HealthCare IT News first-ever ranking of Where to Work: Best Hospital IT Departments. This honor recognizes the workplace environment in the IT Department at Sharp to exceed that of other hospitals across the nation, including those in California as Sharp is the only hospital statewide to be acknowledged.
"It's so rewarding to know that your employees feel valued," said Bill Spooner, chief information officer of Sharp HealthCare. "The IT Department plays a critical role in the success of Sharp, continually impressing executive management with creativity and motivation, and we like them to know their hard work is appreciated."
The goal of the project was to determine what features separate the best departments from all the rest. Sharp received high marks in all seven assessed categories: day-to-day work, IT team, management, hospital leadership, workplace culture, training and development and compensation. As a winner, Sharp will be nationally profiled in the HealthCare IT News December 2011 Special Report: Best Hospital IT Departments.
The project was conducted by Critical Insights, a market research company, to ensure validity and accuracy. Sharp's IT Department was ranked against 32 other large category hospitals that met the nomination requirements. The winners were chosen based on employee assessments of their department, and these assessments were then compared to their counter parts by data analysts.
