Sharp HealthCare Foundation receives grant from Las Patronas for new Cancer Center at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.
SAN DIEGO — Sharp HealthCare Foundation has been chosen as a 2012 Spring Minor Beneficiary by Las Patronas, one of San Diego's most highly esteemed philanthropic organizations. As a beneficiary, the Foundation will receive a grant of $18,999 to support the Patient Consult Lounge at the new Cancer Center at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, scheduled to open in summer 2012.
"The funds will be used to purchase furnishings including a small workstation desk, chairs, a conference table and two televisions that will be used for patient education," said Lorna McGrory, manager of radiation oncology at Sharp Chula Vista. "The lounge is designed with patients and their families in mind. It will be a place for calm reflection and discussion of their diagnosis and care. From the mild color palette, furnishings and soft lighting to the soft music and visual aids on the screen that invites peace and healing — this lounge is designed to be inviting and tranquil."
This is the first gift from Las Patronas for Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, and the first in five years for Sharp HealthCare. Their last gift was awarded in 2008 for a Giraffe OmniBed, which helps keep micro-preemie babies warm in the neonatal intensive care unit at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns. Sharp has received more than $238,000 from Las Patronas since 1984.
"Having the Patient Consult Lounge not only provides us with room to accommodate the patient and those closest to them, but to also reduce the anxiety level associated with a new procedure or treatment," said McGrory. "The lounge will be each patient's start of their journey at the new Cancer Center, and plays a vital role in creating a more healing environment."
"Las Patronas is proud to support exemplary projects such as the Patient Consult Lounge at the new Cancer Center at Sharp Chula Vista," said Patricia Marsch, Vice President/Grants for Las Patronas. "The generous support of our underwriters help us to enhance the quality of life throughout San Diego County by funding grants for critically needed capital items."
