New Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Center Opening in Sorrento Mesa

The 102,875-square-foot facility will serve the communities of Sorrento Valley, Sorrento Mesa, Mira Mesa, Rancho Peñasquitos, La Jolla, Del Mar and UTC.

SAN DIEGO — On May 29, 2012, Sharp Rees-Stealy, one of the largest multispecialty medical groups in San Diego, opened a new medical center in Sorrento Mesa. The facility is located in San Diego's booming biotechnology and telecommunications corridor at 10243 Genetic Center Drive just off of Mira Mesa Boulevard.

Renovations of the three-story, 102,875-square-foot facility, and Sharp Rees-Stealy's largest medical center, were completed at a cost of $19 million. This location offers a modern and spacious design to enhance the patient experience and improve efficiency with features such as auto-closing sliding doors and built-in, swing-arm computer monitors in exam rooms. Energy-saving and sustainable Solatubes are used in the top floor reception areas and exam rooms, providing bright, natural light.

The building also offers patients ample free parking and a meditation garden for relaxation and reflection. Local nature photographer, Robert Turner, was commissioned to display his art throughout the building's corridors and exam rooms, plus his photographs were used to create mosaic tiles in the elevator lobbies. Each floor represents a San Diego landscape: first floor — coastal, second floor — inland and third floor — mountains.

The first floor of Sharp Rees-Stealy Sorrento Mesa offers a pharmacy, urgent care, optometry and optical shop, occupational medicine, radiology, mammography, musculoskeletal medicine, podiatry and orthopedics. Pediatrics (including after-hours pediatric care), obstetrics and gynecology, otolaryngology (ENT), physical therapy, speech therapy, audiology and hearing aid services and the laboratory are located on the second floor. The top floor houses diabetes education, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, rheumatology and dermatology.

A community grand opening event for Sharp Rees-Stealy Sorrento Mesa is scheduled for Thursday, June 21, from 4:30 to 7 pm with complimentary healthy refreshments, door prizes and giveaways. Community members will be able to get a firsthand look at this state-of-the-art facility with behind-the-scenes tours. They can meet doctors and staff members and receive free health screenings that include blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose.
