Hi, I’m Ursula Ridens, registered dietitian at Sharp HealthCare. Today we’re talking about healthy snacks and what to do when you have cravings between meals.
One thing that causes cravings is when you get too hungry in between meals. It is really important to have a nicely balanced meal that is high in fiber with healthy fat and protein to keep you satisfied. If you’re eating the same foods day in and day out, you are likely to get bored and possibly have cravings, too. If you’re following a diet that’s too restrictive, that is also a set up for cravings.
Let’s look at some healthy snacks. We have some edamame beans here, they are high in protein and fiber and delicious, too. Whole-wheat pita with hummus, Greek yogurt that is high in protein and berries that are a delicious source of antioxidants. A wonderful treat here, sliced bananas topped with sliced almonds and a touch of cinnamon.
You can also make a really healthy smoothie that is packed with protein: Greek yogurt, non- or low-fat milk, mixed berries and bananas. Delicious! Be sure to kick up your snacks with these great ideas.
