Trauma and Sports Medicine

Sharp has around-the-clock coverage for orthopedic trauma care.

Trauma to the musculoskeletal system is common and occurs in a variety of settings. From the relatively simple fracture that can occur from a fall to the highly complex multiple fractures (such as auto accident injuries), trauma creates an emergency requiring immediate attention.

The Sharp orthopedic trauma system has subspecialists with trauma training available 24 hours a day who care for trauma-related fractures, including hands, wrists and all other bones and joints. Some fractures require only a splint or cast, but others need to be reconstructed surgically to hold the fracture fragments in place until the bone heals.

Some fractures do not heal (nonunions) and require special expertise and technology to promote healing and restore function. Sharp's affiliated orthopedic surgeons have special training to manage even these complex conditions. Minimally invasive surgery is performed when possible.

What sets our program apart?

  • A level II trauma center with dedicated orthopedic trauma subspecialists
  • Dedicated subspecialists for spine trauma
  • Equipped to perform complex repairs of pelvic trauma
