Breastfeeding Education and Consultation

Sharp HealthCare is committed to helping you give your baby the best possible start in life. Sharp offers a comprehensive breastfeeding education and resources program at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, Sharp Grossmont Hospital and Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns.

Sharp’s Women's and Infants' nursing staff has been specially trained in breastfeeding education to help new mothers begin breastfeeding their newborns immediately after birth. In addition, the hospitals offer certified lactation consultants for mothers who need more help.

Certified lactation consultants are registered nurses with additional, specialized training in breastfeeding education and support. At Sharp HealthCare, they are available daily for inpatients, and are available on an outpatient basis by appointment.

 Each of the three locations also offers:  

  • Breastfeeding supplies
  • Breastfeeding support groups
  • Selling and renting breast pumps
